Ukrainians began to consume less milk
10.39 million tons of milk was produced by all categories of farms in Ukraine in 2016, which is 2.1% less than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
It is reported by the Economic discussion club.
It is noted that the volume of exports of dairy products last year decreased by 7.3% (up to 447 thousand tons). Products were mainly exported to countries of the former USSR (Kazakhstan, Georgia, Moldova, etc.), and also to Egypt.
Imports of dairy products increased by 33.1% up to 102 thousand tons. The largest supply of dairy products is from the EU countries (Poland, Germany and France). Thus, despite the significant growth of dairy import, its share in the domestic food consumption remains within 1%.
The basic commodity positions of Ukrainian dairy exports are butter (54%), and of imports — cheese (72%).
According to the balance calculations, in 2016 the consumption of milk and dairy products per capita amounted to 209.4 kg, which is by 0.5 kg less than in 2015 and is only 55% from rational norm.
Experts also noted that taking into account the current trend to reduce the number of cows, the replacement of which requires at least 2 years, in 2017, there is a high probability of decreasing consumption of dairy products by the Ukrainians.
