Ukraine will ban unidentified animals sale and keep
Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has proposed to introduce mandatory identification on farm animals and prohibit the maintenance and sale of cattle that have not passed the state registration. In this regard, the Ministry proposes to make amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine concerning the identification and registration of animals not only by enterprises but also farmers.
«You cannot force a man who keeps cattle for their own needs to pass the process of identification according to existing law. However, if the animal doesn’t create any danger no one will talk about identification need. But in all civilized countries, livestock is registered as it concerns epizootology and food security. Our country needs to do the same», Volodymyr Horzheev, the Head of the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service said.
According to the bill announced by the institution, individuals will pay a fine of 3-5 exemption limits and officials from 5 to 10 exemption limits for breeding, slaughter, disposal and sale of unidentified cattle.
The Head of the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service has also said that state subsidies will get only those farmers who identify their cattle.
«To get the compensation the owner should apply to the village council and provide a veterinary passport and map, this means that the animal has been identified», Volodymyr Horzheev said.
