Ukraine to reach the grain export volumes of 90 mln tonnes – FAO
In 2013/14 MY Ukraine took the 3rd position in the world by maize exports (20 mln tonnes), and 6th position - by wheat exports (9.5 mln tonnes), declared Dmitry Prikhodko, Economist at the Investment Centre Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), during his speech at the First round of the V Ukrainian Grain Congress in Paris.
At the same time, the country does not completely realize its export potential, which is estimated at the level of 90 mln tonnes of grains per year, he stressed.
The speaker said that according to the FAO data, in 2023/24 MY the global demand in grains will increase by 10% compared with the index of 2013/14 MY, and the volume of its trade will increase by 14%. In particular, in the following 10 years the growth of wheat trade will total 22%.
By 2023 Ukraine can expect for 5% of the world wheat market, and 12% - coarse grain market. The reporting indicators can be improved through rising of the investment inflow to the transport and storage infrastructure, which should total 5 bln USD annually, added D.Prikhodko.
