Ukraine is the third world country that can export grain to China
In two days phytosanitary certificates will be signed in Beijing that will allow Ukraine to export soybeans and barley to China. In 2014 it is planned to certify such domestic crops as rapeseed and wheat. Thus, in 2014/2015 marketing year, these grains may enter the market of China. It was announced by Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food in his interview to the news agency «UNIAN».
«On December 5, we sign phytosanitary certificates in China that will allow the export of Ukrainian soybean and barley. Wheat and canola will be certified during 2014. I think that in 2014/2015 marketing year, we will sell our production at the Chinese market. Soybean export is especially attractive to us because China does not have quotas on it, unlike corn,» said the Minister.
The Minister emphasized that Ukraine was the third country in the world that has the right to supply grain to the Middle Kingdom. Currently, we have already exported two lots of corn. According to the Head of the Department, the Chinese market is particularly important for the economy of Ukraine due to the increased import in consequence of the living standard improvement. However, according to Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, it has been almost completed the certification of Ukrainian wheat in the United States.
This will be the recognition of the domestic grain quality and expand its sales. «Generally, the right to export Ukrainian wheat to the U.S. is my initiative. And when I announced that in the US Ministry of Agriculture they were very surprised. I understand that maybe we will never go there to supply grain, but the permission to export to the U.S. market is a kind of recognition. If we get this phytosanitary certificate, then we will have additional opportunities in other markets. I believe in 2014 we will complete this procedure, » said the Minister. It should be mentioned that yesterday the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Prysyazhnyuk departed to China. During his official visit it will be held meetings within the framework of Ukrainian -Chinese partnership in the agricultural sector.
