Ukraine has increased its grain exports up to 5 million tonnes
Since the beginning of 2012/2013 marketing year domestic farmers have exported 18.2 million tonnes of grain. This is 5 million tonnes more against the same period of the previous marketing period. The leading export culture is corn. It was exported about 10 million tonnes. This was announced by Mykola Prysyazhnyuk, the Minister of the Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
According to the Minister, Ukraine continues to maintain a steady rate of grain exports that will fully realize the projected exports. «As for the grain export in the 2012/2013 marketing year, it is stable and we expect the overall export of 23 million tonnes. Today, farmers have already exported 18.2 million tonnes of grain. This is 5 million more than the previous marketing year. In particular, as on March 5, farmers have exported 9.7 million tonnes of corn, almost 6.2 million tonnes of wheat and 2 million tonnes of barley», Mykola Prysyazhnyuk informed.
The Minister has noted positive trends in the geographical expansion of domestic grain export.
«If we talk about the export geography, I want to point out that this marketing year our agrarians exported 7.7 million tonnes of grain to the European Union countries. Moreover, nowadays Ukraine is a leader of the corn supply to England. It is very important for us», Mykola Prysyazhnyuk added. The Minister has also stressed that food security remains the most important issue.
The Ministry is constantly working on keeping the optimal balance of grain. Mykola Prysyazhnyuk has noted that currently the total grain supply fully satisfies domestic demand.
