Sales of the livestock for slaughter increased by 7.3%
Since the beginning of the year, Ukrainian farmers increased sales of livestock and poultry for slaughter by 7.3%. Thus, the leaders are Cherkasy, Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Besides, to keep this positive tendency, the State pays peasants, farmers and cooperative members a special grant. This was announced during the Collegium of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food held within the exhibition «Agro-2013» by the director of the Department of Livestock Andriy Hetya.
«In Ukraine it is observed both gradual livestock increase and sales for slaughter increase. Thus, from January to April it was supplied by 7.3% more cattle than the same period of last year», said Andriy Hetya. The leaders are Cherkasy region — 146.1 thousand tons, Kyiv — 106.6 thousand tons and Dnipropetrovsk — 93.1 thousand tons.
But the biggest growth was demonstrated by Vinnytsya region with an index of 95.8% of sales compared to 2012. The Director of the Department believes that such tendency is due to the state subsidies payments paid to peasants, farmers and members of cooperatives.
«This year we have started a program of subsidies for supplied heavy cattle and pigs for slaughter. In particular, it is paid 2.5 UAH per kg for cattle with weight over 330 kg and1-1.5 UAHper kg for pigs depending on the total weight of the animal,» said the expert.
