Russia to activate dairy production

Producers of commodity products continue to show high activity.

So, 15 ths tones of milk powder were produced in August, up 26.5% from August 2013. Production of butter made 23.7 ths tonnes, up 10.6%, cheeses and cheese product — 43 ths tones, up 5%.

Slowdown of price rise in large wholesale was partially affected by information that EU may start revising sanctions against Russia on September 30. In reply the government of Russia could remove restrictions on import of food, including dairy. That is only hopes, but if they come true it may be fraught with consequences for those who have big stocks.

While import from Europe is not renewed, Russians continue to search for alternatives, but results are not especially successful. Additionally to contacts with New Zealand, Argentina and Uruguay, only beginning of cooperation with Brazil was observed. Probable suppliers from this country have already passed inspection of Rosselkhoznadzor (Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance).

Russia plans to begin import from India, but not earlier than in December. Now plants (in particular, Amul, a leader of Indian dairy market) are passing Russian inspection.

Before all potential suppliers will enter the market, Russians have to count on themselves and Belarus.
