Range of dairy products in Russia is decreasing, prices growing
In 2015 sales of dairy products in Russia increased by 2.5% in volume terms. This is according to Nielsen research. But the nominal increase doesn’t alleviate the problem — Russians have to narrow the range of dairy products due to the fact that prices increased by almost 10%.
Sales of kefir (16% of the market) dropped by 2% during the year, sales of drinking yogurts (6%) — by 4%. Sales of heat-treated milk increased by 7%, of sour cream — by 6%. Nielsen specialists refer this tendency to popularity of sour cream and milk as base products used for food preparation.
In the times of crisis consumers prefer to buy products produced by local plants-brands, as it appears from the research. Share of sales of firm yoghurts and dairy desserts from farms and small private brands doesn’t grow contrary to their competitors from big dairy plants.
In 2015 price growth on the dairy market totaled 9.7% what is lower compared to 2014 when prices increased by 15%. Consequently in last two years prices increased by a quarter.
