Consumption of cheese promptly falls in Russia
Decline of consumer demand is more influencing wholesale prices of cheeses.
At the same time the Russian Federal Service of State Statistics still showed a growth of “cheese” inflation in the beginning of March. Nevertheless the buyers will probably see a reduction of prices in shops already.
Wholesale prices of cheeses fell by RUB 10-15 for last weeks.
Demand is increasing for cheap cheese products which are often sold as “real” cheese in Russia. It becomes easier to find this category of products in price-lists due to their level of prices. Now it is possible to buy cheese product (in price-lists it appears as cheese) at about RUB 220-250/kg in Russia.
Prices for import cheeses also declined. Edam/Gouda is valued at RUB 320-360/kg in wholesale, which is about RUB 20 cheaper than two weeks ago. It is almost impossible to find out a real country of origin of the products. There can be written on labels that products are from Germany or Lithuania (import from which is banned), or Turkey (where production of those kinds is not widespread).
Belarusians slightly lowered indicatives for cheeses. That corresponds to tendencies of Russian market, but soon the prices may fall even more. Hard cheese is not a product of prime necessity, and consumers save expenses in Russia.
